More ColdFusion Weekly

I'm caught up now, having listened to the rest of The ColdFusion Weekly 1.2 Beta and all of 1.3 Beta on the commute to/from San Jose today. In 1.2 Beta, I enjoyed their recommendations for "good Object-Oriented learning materials", in response to the question posed in the "CFQuery" segment of the show. They suggested several "obvious" choices but also several not-so-obvious choices, including books I hadn't really thought about in this context. Good stuff. The CF_Hotseat interview featured Kurt Wiersma talking about how he uses Mach II and ColdSpring, and how he architects his applications. Lots of good experience-backed information that should help people trying to get their head around OO, layered architecture and frameworks. 1.3 Beta focused on Open Source Software. Matt and Pete gave a good background to the concepts and principles behind the Open Source movement, including the different philosophies espoused by different camps within that community. They covered the different Open Source licenses, a variety of resources available to ColdFusion developers and some of the shared infrastructure for hosting Open Source development. The CF_Hotseat interview features Brian Rinaldi talking about the ColdFusion Open Source Project List he maintains and how Open Source is blossoming in the ColdFusion community (although we have a long way to go yet!). Another great episode so I'm looking forward to 1.4 Beta and being able to keep up with the series in future. Oh, and they fixed the strident stereo separation issue I complained about with 1.2 Beta!
