Me and Gmail

January 20, 2008 ·

Please do not send personal email to my Gmail account! I use it exclusively for mailing lists. I sometimes go days without checking it and I get so much email there that I often just mark swathes of it as "read" without actually reading it. If you want me to see something and actually respond to it, send it to my corfield.org account (or use the contact form on my blog).

I've just migrated all my old email accounts that seem to get spammed all day long over to gmail, as my Spam Filter as it seems to do it pretty well :)

The same thing happens to me. I'm thinking I may need to edit my sig on gmail to specifically point it out to folks.

Do you have all email come into the inbox and archive it when you're done? When you say mark swathes of email as read, you really mean that you archive that email, right? Do you mute threads aren't interesting to you?

If you're doing all those things, here's one more tip that might help: Create a rule to label any messages containing your name as "My Name." I do that so that messages sent directly to me and threads in which I've participated stand out.
