Updated - new BOF suggestions added!
Not all of these have been scheduled yet - we wanted to get your feedback on what you think would be most popular:
  • ColdFusion 9 feature brainstorm - Jason Delmore / Adam Lehman
  • Source Code Control - volunteer?
  • Best practices for UI design - Ken Sykora
  • Frameworks - using them / not using them / roadmaps - run by the frameworks authors
  • Using Ant as part of your ColdFusion development environment - Peter Farrell
  • Testing tools, techniques and frameworks - John Paul Ashenfelter and Peter Farrell
  • Open Source development and publishing - Andrew Powell
  • Blogging and Writing - Judith & Michael Dinowitz
We'll be talking to Adobe about possible BOF topics too.

I would love to attend BOF sessions on mxUnit and using ANT/Cruise Control with ColdFusion web applications. I'd be very curious to see what kind of testing other application developers are doing.

I like the idea of "Ant as part of your CF Dev Environment".

Ant definitely, know about it, heard about it, never actually used it with CF dev.

of the topics listed, "Testing tools, techniques and frameworks - John Paul Ashenfelter and Peter Farrell" would be my choice.

if you're still taking suggestions for BoF sessions, i'd love one on subversion for n00bs :)

My top three would be Ant, Testing and Frameworks (in that order).

To Clarify Open Source Development and Publishing: the session is designed to be an open discussion of different open-source CF projects and how to integrate them into your projects, as well as what steps you should take in developing an open source project yourself.

My vote is for: Testing tools, techniques and frameworks - John Paul Ashenfelter and Peter Farrell. I also like the idea of hearing more about using ANT/CruiseControl/continuous integration.

just for clarification... the "Using Ant as part of your ColdFusion development environment - Peter Farrell" session... isn't Peter presenting that during the conference itself (referring to Saturday's "SA2D: Using ANT -Make Your Development Life More Productive - Peter Farrell")?

*if* that's the same session (and maybe they have something special planned for the BoF that's not part of the scheduled session), that might impact people's choices (?)

bump that for version control with Subversion :)

@Charlie, I'll let Peter clarify but I think the intent is to allow a follow on of all sorts of ideas that might be spurred by the session on Saturday.

In other words, Peter's session should get people up to speed and seed the idea of using ant for a number of tasks but it really only scratches the surface of what's possible.

JPA will be covering Subversion (and ant, I suspect) in his Agile Workshop on Friday but that will generate more questions about process automation that can be tackled in the BOF too.

Also, BOFs are very much a two-way street with attendees having their chance to talk about how they deal with automation (in this case) and the pros and cons of ant.

We have 12 BOF slots so we're a way off filling them all so keep the suggestions coming!

A co-worker is suggesting I offer to present on automated testing with Selenium and CFCUnit. I presented this to the DFWCFug in January so the presentation would be similar to that and hopefully by the conference would include integrating Selenium testing with mxUnit as well as CFCUnit.

Any interest in this topic?

@brian, I added new sessions at the beginning of the list so your order probably no longer applies, sorry.

@all, BOFs are generally much more free form than sessions. They are not "presented" by a speaker so much as moderated by a volunteer. The idea is for folks to share ideas, pros & cons, experiences with the moderator leading / shaping the discussion. Sometimes a moderator needs to present a little to provide direction to the group but it's all intended to be a two-way street.

Can't wait to attend cf.Objective()! My top 2 favorite BOF topics are:

1.) Testing tools, techniques and frameworks - John Paul Ashenfelter and Peter Farrell

2.) Using Ant as part of your ColdFusion development environment - Peter Farrell

@tom - i was actually going to ask if there was going to be any presentations on MXUnit (since that seems to be the unit testing framework du jour). so yeah, if you can work the MXUnit stuff in there before the conference, i'd be interested in that one.

@Thomas, we have a BOF on testing tools & techniques on the schedule - led by John Paul Ashenfelter and Peter Farrell - that I think will cover this and we have JPA's two hour hands on workshop and a testing session (on cfcUnit) from John Mason. Hopefully you can attend the BOF and contribute to that?

@all, I've updated the schedule to show all the suggested BOFs and volunteer moderators where appropriate so you can now sign up for BOFs online (using the Flex scheduler app).

Keep suggestions coming!

@all, note: if two BOFs in the same time slot seem to be very popular, I will reorganize the schedule a bit to allow people to attend both.

Hi Sean - this is a new slant to testing that I have not seen before. I am using CFCUnit to drive Selenium tests via the Selenium remote control. This allows one to use one test suite to do both web site front end and unit testing.

I would also demo some code that converts Selenium tests (with some limitations) into CFCUnit automated tests. With these tools I have started to 'unit test' the front end of of our latest CF application.

It does sound like this could easily belong in John & Peter's BOF - I will await your decision.

Sean is entirely right that my session will only scratch the surface of ANT and the BoF will definitely be a better place to discuss all the possibilities of using ANT in your development lifecycle.

I'll be showing some of MXUnit and Selenium off in my ANT session. The BoF with JPA and myself on testing tools will be great to talk about these products especially since my ANT session will be less on how to use those products and more about what they can do for you and how ANT can leverage them.

We'll probably discuss testing tools in the ANT BoF a bit too as many people use ANT to automate their testing of their applications. However, I'm sure we'll want to talk about using ANT for deployment among other topics.

@Thomas, definitely sounds interesting and something to present as part of the testing BOF. You might want to contact JPA and PJF and coordinate with them?

Glad to hear we'll have some good content outside the sessions that should get developers' brains spinning!

@Peter: sounds very cool. i look forward to both the session and the BoF then :)
