I was due to speak at all three venues for Scotch on the Rocks but unfortunately, I have to stay home. As many of you on Twitter and Facebook already know, my wife slipped and fell on Friday and hurt her ankle very badly. We were in the ER until 4am and x-rays confirmed her ankle was broken. Badly broken! She has a tri-malleolar fracture which essentially means she's snapped off the bottom of both her tibia and her fibula. She'll be going in for surgery as soon as the swelling has gone down enough to operate, hopefully on Thursday. She's going to be off her feet for about a month and I need to stay home and look after her.
I'm very bummed about missing Scotch - it was the one conference I wanted to speak at this year (and originally was going to be the only conference I spoke at)! Here's looking forward to Scotch 2010!
Andy and Kev should be publishing an updated schedule in the next few days - I know they have backup speakers on the waiting list.
In the meantime, here's Jay's x-ray:

Sounds nasty. I hope Jay isn't in too much discomfort and everything goes well on Thursday.
We'll miss you at Scotch but I think you've got a good excuse!

Sorry to hear the news Sean. I was looking forward to finally getting to hear you speak. Obviously it's more important you look after the missus :o) Hope she enjoys a speedy recovery!

Very sorry to hear about your wife's injury. It truly sucks! I recently suffered a bad break in my wrist. It's nothing like the severity of your wife's break but I wanted to share some good advice I got from my specialist.
I was advised to take some glucosamine, chondroitin, and calcium to help my body/joint heal. I tried Triflex from GNC -- hey, it's got Flex in the name, how bad could it be :)?!
It's been really helpful thus far in my recovery (rebuilding cartilage, helping with joint flexibility). I also take a couple of calcium tabs each day for bone stability/strength. I'm not usually one for these things but the body, as I near 40, is so much less cooperative than it was when I was 25 that I figured it couldn't hurt!
Also, if your wife is on pain killers, acidophilus is VERY good to take. It's a probiotic and helps maintain digestion, since pain killers can really screw up your digestive system.
Best wishes to you and your wife for a full recovery!!

Thanx everyone!
@Phill, due to budget constraints, Jay won't be coming to CFUnited this year I'm afraid.
@Craig, yup, that's all good advice and we're ahead of ya! :) We actually have a cat on glucosamine and chondroitin.

Hope she gets well soon.
We missed you at SoTR09 London. Mark Drew stepped up and gave your presentation and did a good job, minus the one framework he's not used ;)
