Today, my group, Hosted Services, launched JamJar - a Flex 2 application that provides collaborative workspaces.

JamJar lets you create "spaces" that you can invite your colleagues and friends into, to plan events, share files, discuss topics, share notes etc.

To learn your way around JamJar once you are logged in, look in the Connections pod and open Community Spaces and then double-click the Welcome to JamJar space.

Enjoy!

p.s. No, this is still not the 'top secret' project. This was built by our Seattle-based team (Protect an Adobe PDF File was built by our San Jose-based team).

Holy S$*(%&*(! That's the first Flex app I've seen that uses Google Ads. Hell yeah!!!

Whoa.... thats all I can say

I love it!!!! Good job!!

"...then double-click the Welcome to JamJar space" - This doesnt do anything for me.

Cute. I noticedthat zooming seems to have a problen - you can't get to the right hand of the zoomned image using the horizontal scrollbars.

Also, are you gonna expose the source? This has a lot of elements that have been missing from existing samples.

Sami, a single-click should do it. I thought I had to double-click it but later I just clicked on it and it switched to that space.

David, I'll let the team know about the zooming issue. No idea about source code - I know there's a lot of server side "magic" going on as well (for example, when you upload a document, it goes off and generates an accurate thumbnail image :)

say goodbye to myspace, this could kill it.

When I single-click on "Welcome to JamJar", nothing still happens. If I click on the arrow next to it, I get an additional option that opens below it with just a blue icon. Nothing happens with that also. Maybe I should contact the forums for JamJar, because I just loaded the latest Flash 9. It seems to just sit there.

Sean, very lumber enabled...

By default you are put into the "Welcome to JamJar" space. When you click on the space it does nothing because generally you are already in the space.

From there the best option is to create your own space and just play around.

Jason, thanx. I had my own space so clicking on the welcome space did something. I guess that's why Sami isn't seeing what I see :)

For everyone else, Jason is one of the creators of JamJar so you can be sure your comments are heard by the team that built it!

I'm not seeing it. Is the server down?

Was working earlier, but it's definately humped at this time.

If you just downloaded fp 9 into firefox at least, make sure you restart your browser before trying to view the app. I did that last night on my girlfriends computer and it seems like flash player is working but its really not yet.

Okay, maybe it's just me, but the JamJar link on labs isn't working. I tried it last night. I tried it this morning.

Grrr. I Should know better than to try new tech before my first cup of coffee...

There does seem to be an issue with the load balancer in front of the servers. Of course it HAD to happen the evening we go live.

Stay tuned.

Ok, it is back up!

I am getting a js error on startup in IE6 Line 139 Error 'window.document.myFlash' is null or not an object.

Er, can't seem to find the "invite a friend" envelope icon. Is it me or has someone forgotten to put it in...?

Tom, open up the Connections pod, select a space you own. You'll see the envelope icon appear at the top of the pod. You only get the envelope icon for spaces you own.

I am very interested in how the pods were created. Are those components that come with the Flex 2 builder? If not, how were they created with the easing and everything?

@Chris, I can't answer the technical aspects of your questions but I know the team did some amount of custom work. I'll pass the question on and see what they say.

The Hosted Services group is made up of several fairly independent teams that collaborate to create applications and, in fact, JamJar was pretty much completed by the Seattle team before they actually became part of the Hosted Services group (by way of explanation as to why I'm not entirely familiar with JamJar).
