Waiting lists for MAX sessions

September 06, 2006 ·

According to Ben Forta, some ColdFusion and Flex sessions are so popular they are selling out fast and there are already waiting lists for some of them! If you're still wavering about whether to go to MAX or not, you'd better hurry up and register otherwise you might miss out... and with that much buzz and popularity surrounding ColdFusion and Flex, you don't want to miss out, do you?

Ryan Hartwich on Conferences

August 25, 2006 ·

A timely coincidence: Ryan Hartwich offers his thoughts about the value of conferences on Fusion Authority, just as I excuse myself from MAX. Adam Lehman will be taking over my Fusebox section of the frameworks debate and one of my colleagues will be taking over my partner summit sessions. I have a personal conflict on the Thursday, the day of the partner summit, and since someone from my team will have to replace me there, I can't justify going because my team just has too much going on around that time. I've been very lucky over the last few years to attend a lot of conferences - mostly to speak at them - even though it hasn't been core to my job. When you speak at CFUNITED, for example, and get all of your material in on time, your room is paid for which substantial lowers your budget. I've had to justify only the flight costs - and the time off work. Yes, time off. When I'm at a conference, I'm not "working" and that is a cost, just as Ryan points out, even for fully-funded employees. I've said more than once that ColdFusion community work and conferences are "not my job" but this year the rubber hits the road and MAX is out, as is the upcoming TeraTech frameworks conference (likely January 2007, either in Florida or DC). Beyond that, I can't say... CFUNITED 2007 is probably out but I will make cf.Objective() 2007 even if I have to pay for that out of my own pocket and take vacation time to attend!

I just registered for Adobe MAX 2006 and booked my hotel room. Still need to book flights (awaiting more details about my exact schedule before I do that). MAX 2006 links:
A change of plans mean that I am not attending MAX this year.

MAX 2006 - How Much?

August 03, 2006 ·

It seems that folks are having a hard time figuring out how much MAX costs this year. They're going to the MAX 2006 home page and then scrolling down and clicking on the Register for MAX today! which then presents them with a big ugly form. No, no, no, don't do that. On the MAX home page, look in the right hand navigation pod for the Registration link. Early bird pricing runs through September 25th but hotel rooms will book up early so don't delay! Think $219 per night is expensive? The Venetian is usually a $400-$500 per night hotel so that's a good deal Adobe has for you. But if that's still too much, check out the Imperial Palace just down the strip. Easy walking distance and less than $100 per night. And it has an amazing classic car museum. Hmm, I'd better book my room at the Venetian...

You can now register for MAX 2006. The sessions & tracks are all listed as well. Plenty of ColdFusion sessions this year with a good range of levels. MAX 2006?

January 24, 2006 ·

I've noticed several people on various lists and blogs starting to ask about "MAX 2006" so I just wanted to point out that MAX 2005 was announced in early April (2005) which makes me think it's a bit premature to be speculating about this year's conference...

BACFUG - October 26 - MAX and Merrimack

October 21, 2005 ·

BACFUG will be meeting next Wednesday, October 26th, and the topics will be a recap of MAX for those who missed it and an overview of what's new in the recent ColdFusion MX 7.0.1 Updater. Speakers look like being Jennifer Larkin and myself. I expect it will be fairly informal and we welcome attendees who went to MAX and/or who are using CFMX 7.0.1 to contribute to the discussion. What sort of topics would you like to see covered at future meetings?
